uff... what a evening it was. Atlast the engagement ceremony got over. There were 50 of us confirming and writing a manifest that these two people are ready to get married and we want to be engaged.
Engagement in a arranged marriage is a laborious process. We did not want our home to be dirty so we hired a place (Choultry) and asked an organizer (Caterer) to help us provide food and get the decoration of the place to be done (oohhh...the price (pun intended) i pay for these is very high).
We called the priest to do some pooja (prayer) and blessing this young to-be-couple. we had planned for an event of 50 folks and only 30+ turned up. Lot of food and space went waste :(. This is all to be expected. Wastage is part of the planning process. When you plan for 100 only 80 would turn up. The way people plan weddings are that there should be no hungry person in the wedding rather than food for 100 folks going waste (Indian Social Justice).
The girl and the guy changed their rings and they changed garlands. Anyway, the entire event went well and all of them felt it was grand (Big Fat Indian Wedding). So the engagement got over ; atlast :) and deprieved me of almost one hundred thousand rupees (2500 USD).
